GAA – Tyrone win but defeats again for Donegal and Derry

Donegal  0-11 v  Down 0-13
John Clarke and substitute Peter Fitzpatrick landed late points as Down maintained their run at the top of Allianz NFL Division 2. After a poor quality first half in Ballybofey, Down’s attack clicked into gear during an improved second showing from James McCartan’s men. Helped by a brace of Michael Murphy points, Donegal built a 0-05 to 0-04 half-time lead. The visitors bounced back and Kevin McKernan, Martin Clarke and Benny Coulter shot them ahead.
Donegal have now lost two in a row. The win was an important one for Down in the league context and gives them an early boost ahead of their Ulster Championship quarter-final clash with Donegal on May 30.
Tyrone 3-09 v Cork 0-16
Tyrone picked up their first win of the season in Division One  with a two points success at the expense of previously unbeaten Cork in a Healy Park thriller.Goals from Tommy McGuigan, Colm Cavanagh and Ryan Mellon sealed the win for the Red Hands in gripping contest which also saw the return of Sean Cavanagh, who made his first appearance since the All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Cork last August.Cork dominated for spells, but could never shake off a Tyrone side fighting for survival in Division One.
Derry 1-12 v Mayo 2-12
Derry fell to their third straight defeat in Allianz NFL Division 1 as Mayo triumphed in tonight’s clash at Celtic Park.Goals in either half from Andy Moran and Aidan O’Shea helped Mayo get back to winning ways and secure their first win on Derry soil since 1984.Eoin Bradley scored a goal for Derry with the last kick of the game, but by that stage Mayo were already confirmed winners
