A senior government minister admitted in the Seanad last night that the EU commission would like to see VRT abolished.
Speaking on the adjournment, Donegal Senator Pearse Doherty told Minister Tony Killeen that a campaign had begun in Donegal against VRT, and also against the heavy handed way in which people believe the tax is being enforced…………
However, Minister Killeen responded that abolishing VRT would require a substantial increase in the excise duty on petrol and diesel, and that ‘s not a realistic option in the short term……….
