Largo Foods ballot extended until tomorrow afternoon

The second ballot at Largo Foods Bia Gweedore plant in West Donegal has been extended.
Because of the shift system at the plant, and the fact that some workers work limited hours, the ballot has been extended into tomorrow to allow as many staff members as possible cast their vote on the wage cut being sought by management.
Earlier this week, the Managing Director of Largo Foods confirmed he had planned to manufacture a new rice based line in Gweedore at a cost of 2.2 million euro, with support from Udaras na Gaeltachta, and had asked existing staff to accept the 3.5% wage cut to cover some of the increased costs in energy and transport
In a statement to Highland Radio News, Mr Coyle said that in the absense of an agreement, the planned investment will not to Gweedore, and some other processes may also be transferred, and that would seriously compromise the future of the plant. Senator Pearse Doherty says although the company’s stance is despicable, and the workers have been placed in an impossible position, more jobs may now come to pass.
