Donegal Mayor sceptical about proposed Local Government savings

The mayor of Donegal says some of the proposals in a new document recommending reform of county and city councils fly in the face of what Donegal County Counil is trying to achieve.
The Local Government Efficiency Review Group’s report is seeking savings of half a billion euro.
One recommendation suggests that the number of city and county managers be cut by ten. If adopted, Donegal would not be affected, but Sligo and leitrim would have to share a manager.
Another proposal to impose tolls on new and existing National Roads is causing controversry, with AA roadwatch among the bodies criticising it.
The Mayor of Donegal Cllr Cora Harvey says the emphasis locally has been on ensuring that services are provided to as many people as possible, but these recommendations fly in the face of that commitment……..
