Future of Town Councils up for debate at AMAI conference

The future of Town Council’s has been the focus of the last for day of the Association of Municipal Authorities Ireland conference which is being held in Buncrana.
Yesterday Fine Gael and Labour spokespersons committed to the 300 delegates at the conference that if elected to government they would retain town councils.
The government is currently considering proposals to scrap town council’s as part of a local government reform – a rebuttal paper is being presented at the conference today.
