Fine Gael and Sinn Fein to select NE election candidates

Fine Gael and Sinn Fein will select their candidates this weekend to contest the up coming General Election in Donegal North East.
Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams will address his party’s convention at which Councillor Padraig MacLochlainn will be selected for the party, which will adopt a one candidate strategy.
The party is hoping to build on the success in the Donegal South West by-election which saw the party’s Pearse Doherty top the poll.
Meanwhile Dr. James Reilly , Deputy Leader of Fine Gael and Spokesperson on Health, will chair this Party Convention.
Deputy Joe McHugh and Councillor John Ryan have allowed their names go forward – however with the party also set to adopt a single candidate strategy it is expected that Councillor Ryan will stand aside allowing Deputy McHugh to be selected unopposed.
