Almost 5,000 Donegal students will sit the state examinations which get underway today.
Leaving and Junior Cert exams begin this morning at schools across the country. They will finish on Friday fortnight next.
The first leaving cert paper is English – followed this afternoon by Home Economics, Scientific and Social.
Later this week Students will sit their Maths exams – amid concern over the falling numbers of people taking higher level maths.
The Education Minister Ruairi Quinn says he’s considering introducing some provisions to ensure that students who’ve studied higher level maths actually sit the exam:
