The Department of Education has confirmed that a site identified for the construction of a new school in Gortahork is no longer being considered, leaving the project – from a planning perspective at square one.
The new school, seen as essential for the area, was to consist of a new single storey 5 classroom school, support teaching spaces and ancillary accommodation.
Despite news it was to go to planning last year being welcomed, planning permission was refused over road safety concerns and money received so far for the project had to be return.
That information was revealed in the Seanad last night – Senator Brian O’Domhnaill had raised the issue:
