A 19-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the anal rape of a 15-year-old girl in the grounds of Foyle and Londonderry College a week ago.
Adam Titheridge of Glenside Gardens in Derry was charged with rape, grievous bodily harm and assault on the girl on July 8.
Titheridge spoke briefly during the short hearing only to say that he understood the charges.
Detective Constable Williamson told the court he believed he could connect the accused to the charge.
Defence solicitor Mr. Maoliosa Barr asked the detective if it was true that his client had co-operated with police during interviews and the officer said he had.
Mr. Barr asked was it his client’s case that the sex was consensual and the officer said that the accused had accepted that unprotected sex had taken place but had claimed it was consensual.
There was no application for bail and Titheridge was remanded in custody until July 25.
