Foyle Ferry service suspended

The Lough Foyle Ferry Service has been suspended, with 12 full time and 6 part time jobs lost.
The final ferry from Magilligan docked in Greencastle at 7.30 last night, and a notice on the operators’ website says the directors of the company hope the suspension is a temporary one, and the service will be back on track in early 2012.
The service has been supported by Donegal County Council and Limavady Borough Council since it started in June 2002, but now the councils say they cannot continue putting in money from their own budgets, and need direct help from the governments in Dublin and Stormont.
The Managing Director of the service Jim Mc Clenaghan is hopeful that meetings of both councils later this month may make some headway.
He says the service cannot operate without subventions, and losing it is very disappointing………..
