An Post explains Laghey Post Office closure

It emerged last evening that Laghey Post Office would not be reopening. It had been closed for some time due to what An Post described as ‘unforeseen circumstances’.
A local group had recently expressed hope that the services would be restored, but those hopes have now been dashed.
An Post released a statement to Highland Radio News this morning explaining their decision:
‘The Post Office in Laghey has been closed for some time and An Post has been considering its options for the provision of post office services.
We examined the business need for a Post Office in Laghey taking into account a number of factors including level of business conducted in Laghey PO and the numbers of existing post offices in the general area, particularly Donegal Town and Ballintra.
As a result the post office will now formally close and An Post will not be offering a new Post Office contract for the provision of Post Office services in Laghey.
Former customers of Laghey post office will be continue to be catered for at the post offices in Donegal town, Ballintra or other offices of their choice.’
