Donegal Senator Brian O’Domhnaill has called for an initiative to bring community nursing units into line with modern standards.
He was speaking after exchanges in the Seanad with Junior Health Minister Kathleen Lynch, who could give him no guarantees on the future of Lifford Hospital.
Ms Lynch said the Department of Health is awaiting proposals from the HSE which are likely to include consolidation of services and changes in staffing and work practices.
Ms Lynch stressed the proposals will have to comply with restrictions on funding and staffing.
However, Senator O’Domhnaill says an improvement programme would act as a stimulus to the economy, as well as upgrading the country’s health infrastructure…….
