Police declare Strabane security alert a hoax

Police say a Strabane security alert in which a number of homes were evacuated was an elaborate hoax.
The Ballycolman Avenue/Melvin View area of the town had been cordoned off for a time today.
Army bomb disposal officers carried out a controlled explosion and declared the device a hoax.
During the alert about 30 to 40 people left their homes – they have since been allowed return.
