Sinn Féin TD Pearse Doherty has been suspended from the Dáil after refusing to obey the orders of the Ceann Comhairle, Seán Barrett.
The dispute arose when Deputy Doherty made allegations about the new Secretary General at the Department of Finance.
Mr Doherty told the Dáil that John Moran had headed up a company that was censured by a US watchdog agency.
However, a Department of Finance spokesperson said that the events cited by the US Securities and Exchange Commission had occurred in the New York office of Zurich Capital Markets before Mr Moran joined that office.
The Ceann Comhairle told the Sinn Fein Finance spokesperson to leave the Dail when he continued to probe the issue:
As result of being removed from the Dail Fine Gael and Labour voted to suspend the Donegal South-West Deputy for two days.
