Man jailed for disorderly behaviour at Altnagelvin Hospital

A 27-year-old Derry man has been jailed today for being disorderly at Altnagelvin Hospital’s A&E department.
Eamonn Brady of 53c Clooney Terrace in the city admitted the charge that occurred on December 30 last.
The court heard that Brady was taken into custody on another matter and the custody officer directed that he be taken to Altnagelvin for treatment for a cut lip.
While waiting to be seen at Altnagelvin, Brady became disorderly, shouting and swearing and rolling about on the floor.
He was told that there were children and elderly people in the department, but replied “I don’t give a f***”.
Brady also admitted an assault on a police officer that occurred on February 21.
The court heard that Brady was being chased by police and one officer grabbed him.
Brady then pushed the officer who was off balance.
When he was found a short distance away CS spray was used on Brady.
Defence solicitor Mr. Paddy MacDermott said that his client had become annoyed at being taken to hospital in handcuffs.
As for the assault he said Brady came off worse as the CS spray caused him some discomfort.
Brady was sentenced to four months in prison.
