Donegal County Council has backed a motion which describes the governments decision to scrap elections to Udarus Na Gaeltachta as undemocratic.
The current board of Udarus will be disbanded this year to be replaced by a new board made of selected members. The decision is backed by Junior Gaeltacht Minister Dinny McGinley.
One of the chief opponents to the move is Councillor Brenden Byrne – he says a government appointed quango will rob the people of the Gaeltacht their democratic right:
