A murder investigation is under way after the body of a mother of three was found following a house fire at her home in Co. Cork yesterday.
A man was arrested last night for questioning about the murder of 36-year-Olivia Dunlea O’Brien at her home in Pembroke Crescent in Passage West.
The 35 year old is being questioned by Gardai at Togher Garda station this morning.
Southern Correspondent with the Irish Independent is Ralph Riegal.
He says gardai initially believed she died in the fire.
However the investigation was upgraded to murder after a post mortem was carried out.
“The State Pathologist Dr. Marie Cassidy called to the scene, she did a preliminary examination there” he said.
“The body was removed to Cork University Hospital – and on-foot of the findings of that post mortem at Cork University Hospital, gardai began investigating in a certain way”.
“And just after….10pm last night, a man in his 30s was arrested”.
“He was taken to Togher Garda Station, now he’s been questioned on suspicion of murder and he can be held for an initial period of up to 24 hours” he added.
