A group of fishermen from Donegal was in Leinster House this morning to address the Oireachtas Fisheries sub-Committee.
It’s engaged in a study on how to promote sustainable coastal and island communities.
In his submission, Aranmore Island Fisherman Gerry Early spoke of the effect the ban on draft net fishing is having on the island, and proposed that a draft programme be initiated whereby the fishermen could go back out for a number of years, during which time they would participate in a study of salmon movement.
He says they received a positive reception…………
