Durkan pledges to meet with opponents of Maydown Gasification Plant

The North’s Minister for the Environment has pledged to assess all relevant evidence in relation to the proposed gasification plant at Maydown.
A number of concerns have been raised, not least in Donegal, as to the impact the facility could have on the enviroment and people’s health.
Among those to raise concerns was Donegal County Councillor Jack Murray. He expressed shock that the north’s former environment minister Alex Atwood did not consult with Donegal County Council regarding the proposed gasification plant.
The propsed plant would be built across Lough Foyle just a few kilometres from the east coast of Inishowen.
But current Enviroment Minister Mark Durkan says he will be having further meetings with people opposed to the scheme and other stakeholders over the coming weeks.
He says there are concerns that he takes seriously and has sought further information on both.
It is not clear however if Donegal County Council is is amongst those groups that Minister Durkan will consult.
