Riverdance company seeks to stop Eastern European “tribute shows”

riverdanceRiverdance is in the High Court today – in a bid to prevent ‘illict unauthorised’ shows from taking place in Eastern Europe.
The dance company is seeking ‘as a matter or urgency’ an order restraining a Co Kerry music promoter from using the Riverdance name and infringing copyright.
Lawyers for Riverdance founders John McColgan and Moya Doherty claim music promoter Michael Carr are selling tickets already selling for “Riverdance Tribute” shows in Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.
They say the planned unofficial tribute promotions were illicit and unauthorised shows simply using the Riverdance name.
RiverDance LTD says the damage to the company would be incalculable – and are seeking interim injunctions restraining Mr Carr, of Balconrey, Co Kerry, and his company, of Ballybunion, from using the Riverdance name and infringing copyright material.
