The West / North West Hospital Group has set up a steering group to oversee the restoration of services at Letterkenny General Hospital.
The commitment was given by CEO Bill Maher at a weekend meeting with Cllr Ciaran Brogan, a member of the HSE West Regional Forum.
Cllr Brogan says there are many challenges facing the hospital in the rebuild following the flooding which knocked out over 40% of its capacity, and it’s important that a high level group is overseeing the restoration.
Cllr Brogan says with management and staff concentrating on running temporary services and keeping the hospital running, high level support is vital……
Meanwhile, the new temporary Emergency Department is now up and running. An ambulance only service at the weekend is being augmented by the phased introduction of GP referrals and self referrals by patients later this week.
Meanwhile, a new one way system is in operation in the main hospital car park.
