Letterkenny’s Philip Deignan who is currently riding strongly in the USA Pro Cycling Challenge and enjoying one of the best seasons of his career has said that he feels he deserves a place on Ireland’s four man team for the world road race championships at the end of September.
Deignan who last rode the worlds back in 2009, the year he won a stage of the Vuelta a España  has returned to strong form this season winning the Tour of the Gila and finishing  second in the Tour de Beauce.
Philip said “To be honest, I would be pretty disappointed if I wasn’t selected, I think I have shown this year that I am climbing very well, and the worlds circuit also suits me.
Philip added “I can do something to help Dan Martin and Nicolas Roche in the race. So I would really like to go, and I would be disappointed if I wasn’t selected.”
