Compensation for family of murdered Derry RIRA man

It’s emerged that the family of a Real IRA member murdered by his former colleagues are to be compensated, although half the amount will be withheld because he had a criminal conviction.
Kieran Doherty was shot dead and his body dumped on Derry’s Braehead Road close to the Donegal border in February 2010.
His mother and grandmother were awarded an undisclosed sum by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeals Panel.
The family say police claims during the hearing that their son was involved in drugs were not proven. Mr Doherty’s uncle Vinnie Coyle told the BBC that in their opinion, Kieran’s name has been cleared because evidence presented by the PSNI, MI5 and other security services did not stand up to close scrutiny.
