Controlled explosion carried out on viable device in Gleneely

army bombA Defence Forces spokesman has confimed that a controlled explosion has been carried out on an suspect device found outside a house in Inishowen.
The controlled explosion was carried out by an army bomb disposal team who arrived at the scene in Gleneely by helicopter this afternoon.
Minor damage was caused to a door of the premises by the blast from what has been described as a viable improvised explosive device.
Nearby homes had been evacuated by gardai and a cordon put in place for public safety before the team arrived at 2.30pm.
The scene was declared safe just over an hour later.
