IFA critical of Donegal County Council over water quality in seafood production areas

Fish FarmDonegal County Council has faired poorly in an Irish Farmers Association league table which rated local authorities on their efforts to defend and improve water quality in seafood production areas.
Only three of the 18 areas tested in Donegal were Class A, 2 were class A Seasonal, 13 were class B while one area fell into class C .
This left Donegal joint second from bottom of the league –  a significant disimprovement on last year.
The IFA says Donegal County Council failed to respond to or even acknowledge a request from the association for information on what the authority intended to do to improve water quality along the coast.
IFA Aquaculture spokesman Richie Flynn says that is particularly disappointing given the size of the sea food industry here:
