Green light given to major new supermarket in Ballybofey

An Bord PleanalaAn Bord Pleanala has given the Butt Hall Committee green light for the construction of a major new discount food store in Ballybofey.
The bord backed a Donegal County Council decision to allow the development go ahead on the Chestnut Road beside Finn Park despite objections.
Butt Hall Committee was granted permission by the council to construct a discount supermarket on a 1.1 hectare site on Chestnut Road
The site is currently in use as a football pitch and the grounds of Finn Harps Football Club are situated tothe west of the site. The development will be  single storey and includes 82 car parking spaces.
There was one principle objector who stated that the development went against the County Development Plan under an number of criteria.
Concern was also expressed as the impact the development would have on the neighbouring River Finn and local sewer network.
It was further claimed that the new supper market would not be in accordance with the Retail Planning Guidelines.
However, having considered all matters An Bord Pleanala agreed with Donegal County Council that the development can go ahead.
