It’s emerged that there is only one registered Personal Insolvency Practitioner to serve the whole of Donegal, a fact which local Deputy Padraig Mac Lochlainn is describing as “a nonsense”.
Anyone in mortgage distress or other financial difficulties who wishes to apply for debt reduction through insolvency will need to use a practitioner, but it seems waiting times in Donegal will be lengthy.
Deputy Mac Lochlainn says the situation will be further complicated as there are no PIPs registered for Counties Sligo or Leitrim.
With Money Advice and Budgeting Service waiting lists in North Donegal the longest in the country, Deputy Mac Lochlainn says it doesn’t bode well for the future……….

However, Senator Jimmy Harte says there are over a hundred people undergoing specialist training and applying to become Personal Insolvency Practitioners, and he believes any problems will be quickly ironed out.
He also says in some cases, people may choose to travel to see someone outside of Donegal.
Senator Harte says within a year, the number of practitioners across the country will have more than doubled……..
