JPC meeting told crime in county not as high as people think

garda logoA senior garda in Donegal has said the level of crime in the county is not as high as people believe, and in the vast majority of cases, figures are down.
Addressing the Joint Policing Committee in Letterkenny, Inspector David Kelly said there’s been a reduction most areas of crime, particularly burglaries and thefts, although there has been an increase in thefts from shops.
He told the JPC that while garda numbers are down in the district, a full service is still being provided, although he conceded that the number of community gardai in estates is not as high as people would like.
However, Inspector Kelly said resources are being maximised, and when it comes to the level of crime, there is a difference between perception and reality……
