Councillor seeks clarification on future plans for local government funding

A Donegal County Councillor plans to quiz County Manager Seamus Neeley on what he knows about the Environment Minister’s long term plans for local government funding.
Cllr Patrick Mc Gowan, a member of the National Executive of the Association of County and City Councillors says that Phil Hogan has not discussed his plans with them, but has been consulting with the County Managers’ Association.
He says the property tax was sold as a means of providing a more equitable model of local governnment funding, and take the pressure off businesses which have had to pay excessive rates to make up budgetary shortfalls.
However, Cllr Mc Gowan says there’s a widespread fear that won’t be the case……..
