290 drivers in the Northwest use poor box to escape penalty points

Customs checkpointAlmost 300 drivers have avoided a conviction and penalty points in the Northwest so far this year because they made a donation to charity.
In the Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim areas 290 motorists avoided conviction.
And the Department of Justice confirmed that, up to the end of August, 1,049 people in Ireland avoided a conviction under the Road Traffic Act because they made the poor box payment.
