English picks up National Award

Letterkenny’s Mark English has been named Track and Field Athlete of the Year at today’s National Athletics Awards in Dublin.
Mark produced a number of high performances on the track including the second fastest time ever by an Irishman over 800 metres.
That happened at the Diamond League meeting in London where he clocked 1.44.84.
Another Donegal winner was Lifford AC, who were awarded Development Club of the Year.
Rob Heffernan has been named Irish Athlete of the Year.
The Cork native has been recognised for his gold medal victory at the World Championships in Moscow where he won the men’s the 50k Race Walk.
Heffernan was also awarded the Race Walker of the Year Award at today’s ceremony, while Fionnuala Britton claimed the Endurance Athlete Award.
Ciaran O’Lionaird won the Indoor Athlete Award for his bronze medal win at the European Indoors in Sweden.
