Update – Derry’s Shipquay Street reopens after alert

Shipquay Street and Shipquay Place in Derry have now been re-opened following a search of the area by police following a telephone bomb warning.
Nothing was found but police would ask members of the public to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious.
Those behind the alert have been criticised by local MLA Pat Ramsey. In a statement, he says this was a devastating development for traders in the area on the last Saturday before Christmas, at a time when the street was predictably busy with local families and visitors to the city.
He says it has also caused significant distress for those shoppers who would rightly have been anxious at being evacuated.
He concludes that those behind this bomb scare are reckless and irresponsible, and have no regard for the City or its people.
