Bundoran nightclub cancels plans to open after midnight on Christmas night

Paris BundoranFor the first time in over three decades, no night-club will be selling drink after midnight on Christmas night in Donegal.
The news comes after a night-club in Bundoran cancelled its plans to open from midnight despite being the only club in the county to be granted a late licence.
Paris night-club owner Conor McEniff, was granted the licence by Judge Kevin Kilrane a number of weeks ago, on the condition that he provide transport for people going home. He explained that he would only advertise for the event on Facebook, and would draw a local crowd from around Bundoran.
However there were recent indications that the event would attract people from north Donegal and Northern Ireland.
Clubs are barred from selling drink after midnight in the north of the county since last year, although there was previously a unique Donegal tradition of Christmas drinks in night-clubs.
Mr McEniff decided to cancel the event, stating that he was not prepared to transport people large distances and be blamed for any trouble that might arise with a limited Garda force operating on the night.
Following the decision, this Christmas night will be the first in over three decades in Donegal where no night-club will open.
