Figures show “The Gathering” exceeded revenue targets

The CEO of Fáilte Ireland is welcoming news that the Gathering initiative has exceeded it’s revenue target, representing a 170 million euro boost to the Irish economy.
The tourism initiative aimed to encourage members of the diaspora to come home for various gatherings brought in an extra 275 thousand visitors during 2013.
Around 5000 gatherings took place, including areas not typically regarded as tourist destinations.
Shaun Quinn says 2013 has been a very good year for the tourism industry.
Meanwhile, in Donegal, preparations are being made for next year with the ‘Donegal Gathering’ brand which was first introduced in 2011 being resurrected.
At a recent function in the county to mark the success of The Gathering, Michael Heaney of Donegal County Council said the national event has strengthened the Donegal brand………….
