Donegal Councillor says Irish Water consultants spending is a national scandal

Buncrana Councillor Ciaran McLaughlinSinn Fein Cllr Ciaran mc laughlin has described the €50 million spent on consultants by irish water as a national scandal.
“This waste of public money is a national scandal and cannot be justified”. Despite spending €100 million so far to set up irish water, this monster quango is already out of control. Water services have been moved beyond the control of local councils and the Dail.
Some €200 million has gone to irish water from the budget and €600 million more from motor tax funds. A further €500 million will be taken from the national pension reserve fund to install meters and not one metre of leaking pipe has been fixed. They have been given a blank cheque to do what they want.
“Mc laughlin concluded The €50 million spent on consultants is outrageous at any time but in the current climate it’s a scandal and reminiscent of Fianna Fáil’s record of wastage of taxpayer’s money on other unwanted quangos. No amount of spin or waffle can justify it. The expertise already existed in local authorities to run and improve water services”.
“Minister hogan should make a statement and answer questions in the Dail on this issue next week and john tierney of irish water should appear before the public accounts committee to account for this €50 million spend”
