The Commons Northern Ireland Affairs Committee has announced it will conduct an inquiry into so-called “on the run” letters, given to more than 180 paramilitary suspects.
The committee says it ‘feels it has a duty’ to investigate.
The issue came to the fore when the trial of Donegal man John Downey for the Hyde Park Bomb collapsed when it emerged he had received a letter saying he wouldn’t be tried.
It’s chairman Laurence Robertson says they will go further than the independent investigation announced by the British Prime Minister David Cameron last week:
