Two people die in Galway flat fire

GARDATwo people have been killed in a fire in Co Galway overnight.
The blaze broke out at a flat in Gort shortly before 3 o’clock this morning.
Both bodies have been removed to University Hospital Galway where post mortems will be carried out later.
The fire broke out at Tom O’Donnell’s Flats on Gort’s Railway Road shortly before 3 o’clock this morning.
Two bodies were recovered after the blaze was brought under control – and taken to University Hospital Galway.
One of them was a 38-year-old local man – while the other is yet to be identified.
It’s understood no one else was in the building at the time.
Post mortems on both bodies are due to be carried out later.
Gardaí have preserved and sealed-off the scene and are awaiting the arrival of technical experts as they begin to investigate the cause of the fire.
