Alcorn seeks lifting of recruitment embargo

Another attempt is to be made to have the recruitment ban imposed on local authorities lifted.
In what was his final motion to Donegal County Council, outgoing Cllr David Alcorn urged the council to seek the lifting of the embargo. It was agtain noted that there are now just over 803 people working for the council, down 28% on 2008.
Cllr Alcorn said this week sees several senior officials retire under a package, none of whom are being replaced, and this could have reprecussions in the future.
He also said the lack of council staff means there’s a further knock on effect on local communities………..
