St Michael’s Stephen Doak is the subject of an objection lodged by Queens this week after their defeat to Sligo IT in the Sigerson Cup.
The Belfast University side say he is ineligible because he holds the presidency of Sligo’s students union and that is not permitted in the competition.
Sligo under Manager Martin McHugh are launched a counter-objection, stating they fielded three players who study at Stranmillis College.
The three players in question – Ciaran O’Hanlon, Tony Donnelly, Greg McCabe – are reported to carry Queen’s student cards but there appears to be argument over whether Stranmillis College is regarded as a stand-alone club by the GAA’s third-level authorities.
Sligo defeated Queen’s 1-9 to 0-8 after extra-time in last weeks game to set up a tie with UCC in Cork.
