A contract has been signed for improvements to the wastewater infrastructure in Killybegs, Bundoran, Glencolumbkille and Convoy.
Irish Water say the four projects involve a total investment of just over €18 million.
In the EPA’s Urban Wastewater Report for 2014, Killybegs and Bundoran were among forty-five towns in Ireland where untreated sewage was being discharged directly into the sea, while the infrastructure in Glencolumbkille and Convoy was rated as ‘inadequate’.
The contract work will begin in the coming weeks with construction scheduled to start in the spring.
The new treatment plants and associated sewer network should be complete by spring 2018.
Irish Water Spokesperson Michael Tinsley says it’s a significant development…..
