The Garda Representative Association’s Donegal representative says while some new recruits are being located in Donegal, the fact is they are only replacing gardai who are leaving the force, and as a result there is no actual increaase in numbers.
If anything, Brendan O’Connor says, the opposite is the case.
Recently, Mr O’Connor expressed concern about the lack of counselling services available to gardai, but confirmed to Highland Radio News this morning that management are addressing this issue, and are tendering for a counselling services, particularly in light of the fact that six gardai took their own lioves last year.
Brendan O’Connor says this is to be welcomed, but in terms of the wider issue of morale, there are still serious issues…….
