Distraught mother tells Highland Radio “My son needs St Joseph’s Hospital”

A meeting in the Finn Valley Centre in Stranorlar to discuss the future of St Joseph’s Hospital broke up in disarray after an hour last night, after attempts were made to elect members to a committee dedicated to fighting for the retention of services there.
Between 400 and 500 people attended what was described as a ‘public meeting’, but it’s been claimed that apart from politicians, members of the public did not get a chance to speak.
The Chairperson of the meeting, Cllr Patrick Mc Gowan, acknowledges that there were issues, and says there will be another public meeting.
One of those who didn’t get to speak last night was Eileen who is in her 80s.
She regularly visits her son Liam at the hospital ; he’s in his 50s, and has been a patient at St Joseph’s since suffering a brain haemmorage 13 years ago.
In an emotional contribution to today’s Shaun Doherty Show, Eileen outlined what she would have said at the meeting, had she been given the chance………
