Ballyshannon Water Plant contamination caused by slurry

Irish Water has confirmed that a contamination incident that occurred at the intake to the Ballyshannon Water Treatment Plant on Wednesday February 17th was as a result of agricultural activity involving slurry.
The utility is stressing that at no point did contaminated water enter the water supply network, and at no point was there any risk posed to public health.
In the meantime, clean-up operations including additional testing and sampling is on-going at the Ballyshannon Water Treatment Plant and it’s expected it will be fully operational again by mid-March.
Councillor Niamh Kennedy says it’s unlikely that it will happen elsewhere in Donegal……….
