The funeral of one of Ireland’s most well known and respected actors – Frank Kelly – will take place today.
Mr Kelly – who starred in numerous roles from Wanderly Wagon to Hall’s pictorial weekly – is most fondly remembered for the character of Fr Jack in Fr Ted.
He had suffered from Parkinson’s disease in recent years and is survived by his wife Bairbre and seven children.
Rob Morgan son of Fr Ted’s Dermot Morgan has said it is poignant that Frank passed away 18 years to the day Dermot died: “It is one of those horrible tragic coincidences in life that both Dermot and Frank should die on the same day.
“And I suppose the only comfort you look for in it is wherever they are now they are certainly rekindling their acquaintance with one another and looking out for one another and hopefully looking out for us aswell.”
