National Hurling League, Division 2B: Donegal 1-09 v 2-19 Wicklow
Donegal hurlers have one more chance to avoid relegation after losing a relegation playoff on Saturday.
They were in Newry today to take on Wicklow in their relegation playoff to stay in Division 2B of the National Hurling League.
They lost and now face Roscommon from Division 3A next week as their fight against relegation enters its last stage.
Donegal matched Wicklow in the opening stages, but fell behind crucially as half-time approached.
Wicklow opened the scoring through Tommy Storey after two minutes which made it a game of catch-up for Donegal for most of the half.
The half-time score was Donegal 0-05 versus 0-10 Wicklow.
Wicklow changed goalkeeper for the second half, with Robert Fitzgerald replacing Dan O’Neill.
It didn’t help Donegal, as Wicklow continued to send over the scores.
The score was quickly extended to Donegal 0-05 v 0-13 Wicklow.
Chester Kelly then grabbed a goal to make it Donegal 0-05 v 1-13 Wicklow.
Donegal got a goal back but they had a mountain to climb when Wicklow got a second goal, this time through Christy Moorehouse.
In the end, Wicklow ran out winners on a score of Donegal 1-09 v 2-19 Wicklow.
