The leading heart surgeon at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry says lives will be saved as a result of the agreement signed yesterday to bring Donegal patients straight to Derry after serious heart attacks.
In such cases, a lifesaving catherisation procedure must be carried out as quickly as possible, and health authorities on both sides of the border say lives will be saved.
Dr Albert Mc Neill is Lead Consultant Cardiologist at Altnegelvin Hospital.
Speaking on the Shaun Doherty Show today, he said the procedure should be done within two hours, and under this agreement, people will be directly referred to the hospital by their GP or ambulance crew……..
