There’s been an early morning arson attack on a house in Derry.
At around 3 o’clock, police say they were alerted to a fire at a house in Drumard Park. It appears some old furniture was deliberately placed against the front door of the property and set alight, blocking the doorway.
All four residents inside were able to make their way out safely via the backdoor after being awoken by the smoke alarm. The front of the home was badly damaged by the blaze.
Local Councillor Eric McGinley is appealing to anyone who witnessed anything to contact Derry police:

Meanwhile, the fire service in Derry tackled a blaze at the civic amenities site on the Lone Moor Road last night.
It’s reported a number of youths broke the locks on the gates into the site and set two of the large skips on fire.
