A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates court charged with withholding information about the murder of Derry man, Paul McCauley.
61-year-old Charles Buckingham from Kent, is charged with offences relating to withholding information told to him by Matthew Gillen, who has been charged with Mr McCauley’s murder.
The offences are alleged to have taken place in December 2015, Buckingham is charged with withholding information knowing a murder had been committed and two counts of withholding information knowing grievous bodily harm with intent had been committed.
At this morning’s hearing, the defence argued that Buckingham should not be tried for the offences here as they did not take place in this jurisdiction. The defence said that he had been told the information in Scotland and had remained in either Scotland or England since and had not come to Northern Ireland.”
Buckingham was released on bail and ordered not to have any contact with the two men charged with Mr McCauley’s murder, Matthew Gillen and Piper McClements formerly known as Daryl Proctor.
The matter will be back in court again on June 8th.
