Ulster Championship quarter-final result: Cavan 2-16 (22) – Armagh 0-14 (14)
Cavan underlined their superiority over Armagh this season by beating them today in the Ulster Championship quarter-final.
Cavan had already beat Armagh twice this season, winning in the McKenna Cup (2-08 to 0-11) and in Division 2 of the Allianz Football League (3-18 to 0-10).
Armagh were the stronger side back in 2014 when they won that year’s Championship meeting but the two counties’ fortunes have changed.
It was Cavan who opened the scoring today in front of an official 15,263 capacity at Kingspan Breffni Park through Sean Johnston and they ran out eight-point winners.
Cavan opened up a six-point gap by the 24th minute, leading 1-7 (10) v 0-4 (4), mostly thanks to a goal from Dara McVeety.
At half-time it was Cavan 1-9 (12) v Armagh 0-7 (7).
Sean Johnston scored again in the second half to put them ahead on a score of Cavan 2-13 (19) v Armagh 0-12 (12) to underline Cavan’s command of the game.
The full-time score was Cavan 2-16 (22) v Armagh 0-14 (14).
