Derry go third after hard fought win over Wexford

gerard doherty derry cityA Nathan Boyle goal was enough for Derry City as they picked up the full points against Wexford Youths at the Brandywell.
But they had to work hard for victory against a gallant Wexford side.

A defensive error involving the goalkeeper Graham Doyle and Craig McCabe allowed the Derry player to poke the ball over the keeper just inside the box in the 18th minute.
The mid-season break stopped Derry’s momentum and they seemed sluggish at times as they coped with the pacy Wexford players who tested the Derry keeper with a few efforts on his goal.
Barry McNamee nearly made it two goals in the 48th minute. Rory Patterson mishit a shot at goal which rolled into the path of McNamee who blazed over the bar from inside the box.
Aaron McEneff hit the bar with a great effort eleven minutes from time from 30 yards out.
Despite the performance Derry will be happy with the three points.

This result lifts City up to third in the Premier Division.
